Posting to your blog via email has been around for a while.  I know that Blogger let you do this if you had a blog on blogspot.com and I'm sure you can think of some others (or perhaps you're even using one).  Phil Haack, the omnipotent creator of Subtext, says that there is a new service out there called BlogMailr that gives you an email address to mail to, and then transmits the post to your blog via your blog's API, just like Windows Live Writer does (which I've blogged about before).  They randomize the actual address so its hard for spammers to guess.

So there you have it.  Yet another Web 2.0ish service ending in R to sign up for, like Wankr I wonder how they're going to monetize their service.  Oh I see.  Free for personal use, but if your blog makes you any money they want you to cough up part of it.  What would really be useful, is a blog platform that had the capability to check a pop3 account and download new messages and convert them into posts.  It wouldn't be too hard to do and it would nip all of these great services in the bud.  Most of these service claim no muss no fuss as a reason you should sign up, but it would be just as easy having something be part of the blog software in the first place.

I'm sure they'll get some folks who are already have their blog hosted somewhere, but for those like me installing subtext and having control over their content I say "negatory good buddy".  If I could only figure out (and had the time to figure out) the daunting source control, merging processes, testing, and borg-like development methodologies of Sourceforge, I'd already be coding that as an add on to subtext ;)   Perhaps in time...
